The Dutch agricultural and horticultural sector uses 5 billion plastic pots every year. These pots are used for growing crops (e.g. in horticulture and outdoor nurseries), but also for selling products (bulb cultivation, plant nurseries and tree nurseries). These plastic pots often end up in the hands of consumers. Only 20% of the plastic that reaches consumers is recycled. There is strong public demand for the replacement of plastic with environmentally friendly alternatives, and there is demand for pots made from sustainable materials throughout the supply chain, from growers and consumers to retailers and wholesalers.

With our compostable pots, WPT Biobased offers a fully-fledged alternative to plastic pots. We aim to convince a large proportion of growers and sellers to start using our pots in the coming years. In this way, WPT BIOBASED is making an important contribution to making agriculture and horticulture more sustainable.
