Bolayo cultivation pot at Summer of Innovation in the WHC

This summer, the Bolayo Cultivation pot will participate in the Summer of Innovation at the World Horti Center in Naaldwijk. This inspiring exhibition packed with innovations can be visited all summer and there are several guided tours along the exhibition. Our new, innovative, sustainable cultivation pot Bolayo is shown in our stand at the exhibition. Monday July 20 there was an opening where every participant was allowed to give a short pitch about the innovation. This was very interesting, with very innovative participants. The Summer of Innovation is open until September 4, 2020 and is definitely worth a (online) visit.

Check the website for information and opening times.

Bolayo cultivation pot enters the market

This week, the Bolayo cultivation pot, was brought on the market for the first time by a grower. The pot is part of the plastic-free concept of Mulders Sierteelt from Middelbeers. The plastic-free Physalis Peruviana (Inca Gouda) from Mulders Sierteelt, with the sustainable Bolayo cultivation pot, was nominated for the Greennovation Award in September 2019. Now this new, innovative concept is for sale for the first time via the auction or FloraExchange.

The edible Physalis Peruviana (Inca Gouda) has been certified sustainably grown by Mulders Sierteelt, with the MPS Global GAP FV certificate for the growing conditions and the MPS GRASP certificate for the social conditions. In addition, Mulders Sierteelt has a bee hotel in the yard and the residual water is collected in a bio ditch, cleaned and reused in a natural way. Mulders Sierteelt received the Agrofood Plume from the province of Brabant for this in 2018.

The plant is cultivated and delivered in the sustainable Bolayo cultivation pot instead of a plastic cultivation pot. This pot consists of 100% natural raw materials and is biodegradable. Replacing the plastic cultivation pot reduces the use of fossil raw materials, prevents plastic litter and also reduces the CO2 load. The innovative Bolayo pot proves to be a responsible replacement for the plastic pot in various crops. The pot withstands the process of potting and cultivation and ultimately ensures a beautiful and natural product for the consumer.

The pot in combination with the Physalis Peruviana, which offers the consumer the opportunity to grow the healthy Inca Goldberry in their own garden, is a unique concept. Both in terms of the plant and the material for cultivation. The sales concept of the plastic-free Inca Goldberry is completed with a plastic-free label and a cardboard Ecoclicktray. As a result, all plastic elements have been replaced for sustainable alternatives to natural materials. This concept is proof that the plastic-free plant is possible for various crops.

Article in magazine Forum

The edition of VNO-NCW’s Forum magazine contains an interview with the owners of WPT Biobased, Mart van Tol and René Wesselman, about how the new material from the Bolayo cultivation pot does not fit in with current regulations. The article is called “This good idea is not allowed at the GFT”.

On the website of Bolayo there is an explanation of the regulations about biodegradation and the discussion about this. Pot and plant can be thrown in the garden and fruit waste, as described in the National Waste Management Plan, because pots made of natural materials are on the LAP3 list.

WPT Biobased receives innovation budget

From the province of South Holland and the Innovation Quarter, WPT Biobased receives a wonderful contribution to the development of the Bolayo cultivation pot. From P> Act (Plastic Act) there was a Challenge for projects that aimed to reduce the use of fossil raw materials for plastics or to remove plastic from the environment.

With a project plan for the further development and improvement of the Bolayo cultivation pot, WPT Biobased has won an innovation budget of € 50,000. This will improve the existing pot and new variants will be developed. Thanks to this budget, the time-to-market can be shortened and the chance of success of the sustainable cultivation pot increases. We are therefore very happy with this innovation budget.

Pitch at the Platform meeting “The Green Heart Works”.

On Wednesday, November 27, WPT Biobased pitched at the Platform meeting “The Green Heart Works”. This is the regional platform for circular economic initiatives in the Green Heart in the Netherlands. WPT Biobased has pitched here about Bolayo, the sustainable cultivation pot, and what it can mean for the grower and consumer. Together with growers, we are looking for a retailer who wants to market the plastic-free plant with us. The aftermovie is now online.

Bolayo cultivation pot nominated for the Greenovation Award

The Bolayo cultivation pot from WPT Biobased, together with Mulders Sierteelt, has been nominated for the Greenovation Award, with the entry “Physalis Peruviana (Inca Goudbes) in sustainable Bolayo cultivation pot”.

The edible Physalis Peruviana (Inca Gouda) is sustainably cultivated by Mulders Sierteelt, both in terms of growing conditions and social conditions. The plant is grown plastic-free with our Bolayo cultivation pot and supplied plastic-free with a Joh label. Enschede Amsterdam.

The entire concept consists of 100% natural raw materials and is biodegradable, it reduces the use of plastic and fossil raw materials, prevents plastic litter and reduces the CO2 load. The pot and packaging in combination with the Physalis Peruviana, which offers the consumer the opportunity to grow the healthy Inca Goldberry in their own garden, is a unique concept.

The Greenovation Award was presented by Royal Flora Holland to Van der Vossen during the Trade Fair Aalsmeer 2019, with a plastic-free bulb in a pot. This is a concept in which the bulb in a pot is grown in a plastic pot, but is transferred to a paper pot for delivery to the customer. This concept could be improved with the Bolayo pot. WPT Biobased present at Horti Heroes Mastertrack

WPT Biobased was present at the Mastertrack “High performance company” of the Horti Heroes.

Here we learned from Paul Rulkens how we could achieve large ambitious goals the fastest / best, by creating clarity and keeping focus in the execution.

In addition, we learned from Linda van Aken how to create ownership in a company. This can be done by means of a technique called “deep democraty”, in which everyone has a voice.

We have learned a lot to bring the startup WPT Biobased a little closer to the goal, the large-scale market introduction of a sustainable cultivation pot.
